International demand for extra-large glazing from Europe
Dietmar Henze, Managing Director of Henze-Glas and cooperation partner of UNIGLAS® with all those involved in the project. The architecture team came from Canada especially to check the safety glass pane just under 14 m long and 3.15 m high before shipment and to see the quality of the work by Henze-Glas for themselves.
Henze-Glas, manufacturer of large-pane insulating glass is also high in demand overseas and is delivering an enormous pane of safety glass to be installed in a residence in Canada. The company from Hörden am Harz, one of the partners of UNIGLAS®, has been the sought-after specialist for extra-large panes of insulating glass for more than ten years.
The architect team's plan: A residence in Canada, situated in an idyllic location with a direct view over the lake. So that this view remains unrestricted, the façade was to be faced with just one pane of glass. For this, a flat pane of glass, just under 14 metres wide and 3.15 metres high, was required. A task that the on-site architecture team had to solve. Contact was made with Henze-Glas due to existing business relations with the company Glaskom Grünenplan.
Henze-Glas GmbH from Hörden is known for the fact that it likes to get involved with particular challenges regarding gigantic panes of glass. The company from the Harz area of Germany has specialised in the manufacture and further processing of special insulating glass in the large pane sector for many years. With investment in production and handling, Henze-Glas was able to position itself successfully in the market. The UNIGLAS partner is your contact regarding production and processing of large panes with measurements from 3,210 x 6,000 mm.
Henze-Glas was therefore first choice for the Canadian architecture team's task. Cooperating with an affiliated company, Henze-Glas rose to the challenge and got to work on this mammoth project.
The oversized glass pane in the format 13,800 x 3,150 mm was manufactured as UNIGLAS® | SAFE safety glass, consisting of 2 x 10 mm float glass. Lamination was carried out by seele sedak GmbH & Co. KG in Gersthofen. Transporting this extra-large glass pane was only possible with a special low-loader trailer from the company Henze, which received extra investment for transporting such a huge pane. Apart from the challenge of processing such an oversized glass pane, corresponding packaging also had to be manufactured in extra-large. Throughout the entire production and processing operation there was always the risk of the glass breaking, particularly in terms of the glass surface relating to the total weight of the pane of over 2 tonnes.
Dietmar Henze, Managing Director of Henze, thus reported on the project and the challenges it involved to the company and its employees with a certain amount of pride: "With our customer we are striking out in a new direction. Only thus we can stay one step ahead and position our company on the market for the long-term." Henze-Glas has 45 employees and 4 apprentices. An important success factor is also the fact that the company covers of all a project's services, from the implementation, logistics with its own specialised vehicles to professional installation.
Along with its specialisation in gigantic glass elements, the company from Hörden of course also offers the entire UNIGLAS® range in insulation glass, from UNIGLAS® | TOP to UNIGLAS® | STYLE glass equipment.
